Flim and Flam Make it Big Poster (Commission) by Edowaado Flim and Flam Make it Big Poster (Commission) by Edowaado
''Flim & Flam choose to put their salesmen's life behind and try their luck in the music world instead''

A commission for an ambitious animation that's been in the making for quite some time with a lot of dedicated folks. I've seen some of their animation puppets and it looks very promising. Yet a few more hands for help is always welcome.

This project needs your help!

Wow, what a surprise! You'd think those two would suck at singing just as much as with that Super Cider Squeezy 2000 thing, or whatever it's called. =P

...Just kidding. But seriously, that's a little surprising at this point in time.

He isn't working on this, I just commissioned it for my friend Glove for Christmas.  He's the writer and director, so I thought that getting him a poster of his show would be a great gift, and it went over extremely well.  XD

As far as release date goes, I'm not at liberty to say anything, but the more animators they get, the faster the whole process will move.  I mean, look at the poster.  There are only 3 of them.  Its criminal.

Am I the only one who thought that the Apple Family should've taken up Flim and Flam on their offer? I mean in the long run they would've more money.

The deal Flim and Flam made them was that they could use the machine if the profits were split 75% to 25% with the Apples getting the 25%. While the machine may have produced cider faster and potentially made more money in the short-term, unless the profit increased by at least four times the Apples would end up loosing the money they needed to cover their expenses long-term through the winter months.

Yes, but if the Apple Family had tried negotiate a better deal, lets say bumping up up their cut to 33% they would've made the same amount of money AND supplying more ponies with cider. Heck they could've continued to make they're own homemade cider and sell that as a premium brand for a few extra bits. The way the Apple Family handled the situation only caused more work for themselves and less cider for the ponies of Ponyville.

That's assuming Flim and Flam were even willing to negotiate to 33%, which, granted, we have no real confirmation of this, but I highly doubt those two would've been willing, and even if they did, the Apples STILL would've have gained much of anything from it to really make it worth their time except insure everyone in Ponyville a glass of cider but with no profitable gain that would be expected from achieving such a feat. They would still be losing more money because most of it would be going to Flim and Flam, who, quite frankly, didn't deserve the heftier share, as all they did is provide an apparently VERY low maintenance machine that any ol' unicorn can apparently quite idly provide and sit around and do...pretty much nothing but gloat. The Apples still did all of the work of growing the apples and maintaining the orchard and so forth. So financially speaking, 33% STILL is not a sound deal for the Apples when with the old way they still got to keep ALL of the profit they made. So even though it did cause more trouble for them in the long run, they were right to turn down that really unfair deal.

Either that, or they should have made Flim and Flam a deal to BUY the machine from them so the Apples could run it themselves. All they would need to do is borrow a unicorn every cider season (say, Twilight, who is more magically powerful anyway) to power the machine, and then the Apples would've had it made and got to keep largely ALL of the profit. But I doubt Flim and Flam would've rolled with that either, because without the machine, their goes their OWN livelihood and we don't know if they had any way of building a new machine to replace the first (doubtful, since they're out wandering around, looking to make money), so unless they could also strike up a deal to stay with the machine and get a cut of the profits (again getting into the matter of who gets what), that's not too likely either.

So when you really get down to it, it was Flim and Flam's own fault really, for getting greedy, and staying greedy even when a better deal could be made that would've been good for everyone, and though the Apples were quick to turn them down, Flim and Flam had plenty of opportunity to strike a better deal but never took it up. Supply-and-demand and competition have little to do with it; a bad deal is a bad deal, the Apples recognized it, and that's pretty much the end of it. Everybody wants to take pity on Flim and Flam, but really, they brought down upon themselves. They were too interested in a quick profit that they missed out on a chance to makes things work better for EVERYONE. I don't think they ever REALLY wanted to do business with the Apples anyway; they wanted what the Apples HAD, which was basically, apples, and an orchard to grow them on.

a.Actually, they were good businessmen in the world of Capitalism. I would only be a bad deal if they only used one machine. A good businessman would use the extra profits to increase production by say, using said money to make another machine. The amount of cider produced would once again be increased, giving a much larger margin of profit, allowing more machines to me made along with improvements to them, the farm could hire more workers, more apples would be grown, and the cycle just continues to expand into a full-blown Cider company like with what happened with Coca-Cola! And since the Apples do more than just Cider, they could expand into other areas, making even more profit! It would have been an amazing long term benefit to the Apples!
It's simple Economics!!

True, and I'm not denying that. In fact, I kind of sort of even suggested to all of that in my previous post, and fully agree that such tactics WOULD be good business and great for all parties, but it all again boils down to whether or not Flim and Flam would've been willing to play ball on such a deal, and on this we really just don't know for certain. But given their behavior throughout the episode, I figure they really only wanted to mow down any and all competition, become the ONLY victors, and take it all for themselves and personally dominate the market, probably with just the one machine, which we really have no idea if Flim and Flam were even in a position to build another of anyway. They seem very much like the con-ponies with a cool toy they're portrayed to be.

But we could debate this for as long as we want, it ain't going to chance how the episode truly ended either way. :P

And probably, no matter how you spin it or pin the blame on, both sides lost out in the end because of it, but that's just how to cookie crumbles sometimes. Probably better to just move on and make the best with what you've got.

They never seemed like Con-ponies to me, at least. More like over-eccentric businessmen. And they would have inevitably needed the Apples help if they had succeeded, which I believe they eventually will.

But you are right, it does not change how the episode ended. And you are right that both sides lost.

I just don't like the fact that so many people think of the pair as plain and simple con-pony duo of low character.

It's pretty clear they were trying to cheat the Apples out of the better end of the deal, so by definition, that would make them con-ponies.

But it wouldn't have been a smart move on their part because you're right, they would've needed the Apples, or somepony of the Apples' experience at least, eventually to get through, and were basically dooming themselves. What Flim and Flam brought on, they brought on themselves, and even if you do spin them in a better light, there isn't really any way to deny this, and that's really the point I'm trying to get across with all of this. So many people seem to want to clear Flim and Flam of the blame, when they really should get at least an equal share of the blame for what happened with everypony else, regardless of whatever their intentions were, good or bad.

As for who favors what view over Flim and Flam, I'm starting to suspect its more half-and-half, because it seems I'm meeting lots of people who want to spin the two of higher character than this, like you meet so many who put them in a poorer light, so eventually one has to draw a line somewhere in the middle between the two.

And for some reason, it seems like I'm the only one who ever realized that the problem the Apple family had of not having enough cider could've been at least mitigated if they didn't let Pinkie Pie take ten mugs of cider at once every single day. Heck, Rainbow Dash NEVER calls Pinkie out on this, even when she's rambling about how good the cider is. Sure, Pinkie gives Dash a mug of cider at the end of the episode, but why couldn't she have done that on one of the other days instead of taking ten mugs of cider for herself?

Yeah, if the Apples really wanted to insure everypony got some of the cider, setting up a limit on how much any one pony could get at a time would make sense, but the Apples, being the good-natured folk they are, probably didn't want to have to resort to that if they could help it.

At the very least, Applejack could've set aside at least one mug of cider for Rainbow to get when it became clear she was continually lucking out any other way...but then I'd guess if word got out about that, everypony would expect the same treatment, and then, well...

Still, that wasn't really the point of the episode, so that's probably why this gets overlooked.

Honestly I believe that Flim and Flam's share of the revenue would mostly have gone paying for the machine. But whatever, agree to disagree?

The machine seems pretty self-sufficient and low-maintenance, so I doubt they really needed 75% of the profit to manage that, and probably could've quite comfortably gotten by with just, say, 50% of the profit, which is really the best and most ideal deal both sides could go for.

But sure, I can agree to disagree, I suppose. :)

Yes thanks to the joint effort of Flim Flam, the Apple Family, and the mane six. However next year the Apple Family will still be using and out dated method of making cider and this time there won't be competition to force the Apple Family to follow the concept of supply and demand and they're won't be any reason for the mane six to assist the Apple Family in making the cider, ultimately the Apple Family and the citizens of Ponyville just doomed the selves to a never ending cycle of not having enough cider.
Here this will explain it better than I can www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWeExd…
